Tuesday morning's practice looked rather grim for those Vikings players involved in last weekend's brawl outside the Tabu nightclub. But, there was a new face on the scene -- linebacker Keith Newman.
Newman, a six-year veteran who played 12 games with the Falcons last year, was signed and at practice in uniform Tuesday morning. He has been brought in as insurance in the event E.J. Henderson has a rehab setback or is subject to a league suspension for his role in Saturday's brawl.
Tight end Steve Farmer was at practice Tuesday, but walking the sidelines in a tee-shirt and shorts. VU has been told he will likely be released this week since it has become apparent that he played the key role in the brawl escalating.
* The Vikings plan to work out former World Wrestling Entertainment champion Brock Lesnar Friday. The former WWE champ has received a lot of publicity for his planned switch from wrestling to the NFL, and the Vikings are the team he would most like to sign on with.
* Wide receiver Blake Elliott had surgery to repair his broken left leg and the prognosis was worse than hoped. He needed to have a pin inserted in the leg and is expected to need up to a full year to heal completely.
* Another precinct is heard from. Last week, VU expressed its happy shock that Pro Football Weekly picked the Vikes as division champs. Add Street and Smith's to that list too, as they also are predicting the Vikings to win the NFC North.
