All-Pro center Matt Birk is spending today somewhere he hasn't been in a long time at Vikings training camp -- back in the Twin Cities for more medical tests.
Birk, who has become something of an ironman in the Vikings offense, suffered a pelvis injury Monday and was forced off the field. The Vikings are hopeful the injury isn't severe and won't cost him any meaningful playing time.
The injury is being termed an inflammation of the joint that connects the right pelvis and the left pelvis. He received an anti-inflammatory injection and the hope is that he can return to practice tomorrow.
Since becoming a starter in 2000, Birk has never missed a game. In the event he does miss any time, his place with the first team will be taken by Cory Withrow and Lewis Kelly.
