Minnesota Vikings (5-3) at Green Bay Packers (4-4)

86th meeting. The series is tied 42-42-1.

The Vikings trail 13-14-1 at Lambeau but won 30-25 there in Week 1 of last season. Green Bay won the last meeting 30-27 at the Metrodome.

offense 1st (11th rush, 2nd pass); defense 28th (13th rush, 29th pass).

Packers: offense 4th (12th rush, 3rd pass); defense 17th (18th rush, 18th pass)

With WR Randy Moss missing his second consecutive game, the Packers will commit SS Mark Roman to helping against Minnesota's running game. RB Onterrio Smith is averaging 5.1 yards per carry and the more effective he is, the more it will open QB Daunte Culpepper's options downfield.

But the Packers have to blitz in order to get pressure on the passer, so the plays should be there for Culpepper if he has the time to look downfield.

The Packers will try to establish their ground game with RB Ahman Green, but the weakness of the Vikings defense is in their secondary. Minnesota has been allowing big chunks of yardage through the air and QB Brett Favre will take several shots downfield.

  • Culpepper has a 137.0 passer rating on third down.

  • DT Kevin Williams leads all NFL DTs with six sacks.

  • QB Brett Favre has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 33 consecutive games, 14 behind Johnny Unitas' NFL record.

  • Offense converts 50.9 percent of its third-down situations.
