Staff Changes Made

The Vikings announced today a few changes in the coaching staff, although no head coach has been named yet.

Red McCombs and interim head coach Mike Tice met today at Winter Park, and then they each talked about the decisions that had been made today, specifically with the coaching staff.

No permanent head coach has been named and McCombs said there are several other candidates besides Tice, but several assistants were informed that their contracts will not be renewed.

Among them: Offensive coordinator Sherman Lewis, defensive coordinator Emmitt Thomas, running backs coach Carl Hargrave and inside linebackers coach/pro personnel director Richard Solomon, Green's closest confidante on the staff and a point of contention on several occasions.

It was also revealed that outside linebackers coach Trent Walters will take a job as an assistant at Notre Dame, where he will join former Vikings assistant Tyrone Willingham, who was recently named head coach for the Fighting Irish.

Tice also revealed that he would seriously consider staying with the Vikings if he wasn't named the head coach. In that scenario, he would likely be named the offensive coordinator.

Viking Update will have more on these changes in a later update.
