Moss Hits Practice Field

For the first time in more than two weeks, Randy Moss was spotted on the practice field -- but don't get your hopes up too high for this week.

Randy Moss made his first trip back to the Winter Park practice field Wednesday, but it still hasn't pushed up his timetable for returning to action.

Moss spent about a half hour in one-on-one work with third-string QB Shaun Hill, lightly testing his right hamstring -- which has kept him without a catch for the last four-and-a-half games.

While the return to practice after a two-week shutdown doesn't mean Moss will play Sunday -- he's still listed as doubtful -- he is expected to be back for the following game at home vs. Jacksonville. Stay tuned. The changes keep coming.

* Another public demotion? At the portion of Wednesday's practice that was open to the media, DT Spencer Johnson worked with the first team while Chris Hovan played for the scout team. Johnson, who had seven tackles on 28 plays Sunday -- a number that came closing to matching Hovan's total from the previous month -- hasn't been given the starting job yet, but may be getting close. Mike Tice did a similar ploy with Steve Martin earlier in the year, but allowed Hovan to keep starting. Hopefully, Tice has learned that production is more important than consecutive starting streaks.
* According to defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell, the Vikings defense has dropped 13 potential interceptions this year.
* On the Vikes injury report, aside from Moss, LB Raonall Smith is out, Mewelde Moore is still listed as questionable with a sprained ankle and Matt Birk is probable with an abdominal strain.
* Daunte Culpepper continues to lead the fan vote for the Pro Bowl with 325,000 votes -- 15,000 more the Peyton Manning. If the voting ended today, the fans would have selected Culpepper, Moss and Birk as NFC starters. There are still four weeks to vote at
