Saints Want Cris Carter

Cris Carter is in New Orleans, but VU is hearing today it may be for more than just the weekend.

When VU first heard a long list of teams that may be interested in Cris Carter, one team that didn't make immediate sense was New Orleans. A team that imploded much like the Vikings in 2001 and is seriously talking about trading Ricky Williams away, the Saints didn't look like much of a shot.

However, VU's Super Bowl contingent is hearing plenty on the subject, as Friday night cocktails turned into some major phone tag Sunday.

VU has confirmed that the Saints have a big interest in adding Carter to replace Albert Connell in their offense and will be willing to pay him good money and satisfy his request for a two-year contract.

While still under contract with the Vikings -- a formality at this point -- the Vikes have given Carter permission to talk to other teams and his visit to New Orleans may not just be to put in face time at the Super Bowl ... it may be to pursue a contract.

* Scott Linehan said Friday he intends to live up to Mike Tice's request of getting the ball to Randy Moss on 25 percent of plays. He says he believes he can scheme to bring out the best in Moss and that despite double coverage, creating chances for him is critical.
* Paul Tagliabue spoke at the NFL's official press conference and made a defense of Randy Moss, highlighting that he is a "phenomenal athlete" and shouldn't be viewed by comments he has made about playing only when he wants to.
* Russ Purnell, the former Ravens special teams coach who many thought would simply be involved in a job swap with Gary Zauner crossed up that speculation, signing on to be special teams coach for the Colts Friday.
* The NFL is going to revise its training camp policy about heat, a response to the heat stroke death of Korey Stringer.
