Chris Hovan's tenure with the Vikings took several twists and turns along the way, highlighted last year by a public calling out by coach Mike Tice and a subsequent benching that was thought at first to be a motivator for Hovan. Instead, it was his ticket out the door.
Thursday, Hovan signed a contract with the Buccaneers to continue his pro career after nearly a month of silence on the free agent market. Whether he can win a starting job back is uncertain, but it was clear the Vikings were planning to move on without Hovan last fall. When he put his house up for sale, it was clear he saw the writing on the wall as well.
With Hovan gone, Spencer Johnson remains his replacement/backup to newly signed Pat Williams.
