Brian Russell tied for the NFL lead in interceptions two years ago, but even so, his spot on the team was never assured. That starting spot took a big hit last month when the Vikings signed Darren Sharper.
The final blow came Saturday morning when the Browns announced they have signed Russell to an offer sheet. VU has yet to learn the exact terms of the offer -- we're tracking that down for Sunday morning's update -- but it is believed to be front-loaded, which would make it more difficult for the Vikings to match.
The Vikings have one week to match or decline the offer. The team had submitted a one-year tender for $660,000 to keep Russell, but VU is being told it is unlikely that the Vikes will match the offer. If he goes to the Browns, the Vikes will not receive compensation.
