The NFL hits town Tuesday as Paul Tagliabue and some top league executives are scheduled to meet with legislators to discuss the future of Minnesota football.

For several years, some Vikings fans have been on edge -- concerned about the lack of progress over a new stadium and its potential backlash. The thought of the L.A. Vikings makes some fans ill.

The NFL is taking the threat of the Vikings -- whether Red McCombs or Reggie Fowler owns the team -- potentially leaving very seriously. So much so in fact that Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and some of the top league executives have scheduled a meeting with legislative leaders for Tuesday in hopes of getting a handle on where the stadium effort is at the state level as well as trying to promote the idea of building a new stadium in Anoka County.

Whether the NFL will be successful in its bid is unknown, but it is an historic sign that the league has sent its top power brokers to Minnesota to personally explain their position -- as well as potentially setting up an "out" clause for the Vikings if they are rebuffed.
