Chukwurah Draft Profile

The name is hard to pronounce (don't ask us to do it) for the linebacker who was born in Nigeria and came to the United States when he was young. Now he is expected to play strongside linebacker for a team — the Vikings — who are named for Nordic warriors.

Patrick Chukwurah was selected by Minnesota in the fifth round of the 2001 draft out of Wyoming. While at Wyoming he played mostly as a standup pass rusher in a defense that spent more time in a 3-4 alignment than 4-3.

With the Vikings, Chukwurah is expected to learn for at least a year in practice and contribute on special teams, something he said he didn't play a lot in college.

"I had more special teams work when I first got here as a freshman, but I didn't have a whole lot of special teams work. I know that is where I am going to have to be a contributor, so I look forward to doing that," he said.
