Former Chicago Bear R.W. McQuarters visited Winter Park on Friday, having breakfast with head coach Mike Tice and watching the Vikings' developmental camp practice from the sidelines in street clothes.
The Vikings are considering signing McQuarters and like his versatility. He can play cornerback or free safety on defense and is an accomplished punt returner. If signed, McQuarters wouldn't push Fred Smoot or Antoine Winfield out of a starting job, but if Brian Williams continues his absence from spring practices McQuarters would likely vie for a nickel back role with Ralph Brown and Ken Irvin.
McQuarters had nine interceptions with Chicago and also played two seasons in San Francisco. Tice also likes the fact that he is familiar with the NFC North Divsion.
