The long awaited start to training camp hit this morning, but two faces expected to be key contributors weren't there. Both first-round draft choices -- Troy Williamson and Erasmus James -- remain unsigned.
As reported earlier this week by VU, the prospect of getting James signed looks better than Williamson. James' agent met until about midnight Friday with Vikings officials at Winter Park and James is in the Twin Cities -- ready to make the move to Mankato once a deal is struck.
Williamson, on the other hand, remains in Florida while his agent negotiates over the phone with Vikings personnel. VU has been told Williamson is also ready to make a move once a deal is done, but logistics would prevent him from being on the practice field for at least a day after he signs a deal.
VU will keep you posted on all the comings and goings as camp is officially underway and Vikings fans begin life anew looking ahead to the 2005 season.
