With both Michael Bennett and Mewelde Moore sidelined with injuries, the Vikings are going to give Ciatrick Fason, who missed last week's game with an ankle injury of his own, his first NFL start.
Fason said he's looking forward to the opportunity to make an impression on coaches -- even if he will only be with most of the first-unit offense for one or two series.
Bennett practiced Monday, but still had soreness in his neck -- making his availability a question mark for Friday.
* Tight end T.J. Cottrell suffered a compound fracture of his left fibula Monday after colliding with E.J. Henderson. He could scheduled to be placed on injured reserve by the next cut-down date.
* The Vikings didn't have to get their roster down to 65 players as mandated by the league because they had five roster exemptions for players who went to NFL Europe.
* Former coach Jerry Burns will be added to the Vikings ring of honor at a ceremony at halftime of the Nov. 6 game vs. the Lions.
* Former Viking Jack Brewer was among the early cuts by the Giants Monday.
