Vikes Bring in Coaches

The Vikings head into their bye week with a couple extra sets of eyes watching the team, as coach Mike Tice looks for answers to problems on both sides of the ball.

The Vikings are going to have some additional assistance during the bye week from former coaches Jerry Rhome and Foge Fazio in an attempt to improve and streamline the team's schemes on offense and defense.

Rhome spent one season with the Vikings and Fazio was the team's defensive coordinator for five years -- the last time any DC has been around more than two years with the Vikings. Both are being asked to do an independent analysis of the team's offensive and defensive schemes.

Tice said he hopes that Rhome will be retained and hired as an offensive assistant. If so, he would move into the coaches booth during games and Steve Loney would return to the sideline. While Tice said it wouldn't mean stripping Loney of his offensive coordinator duties, it would represent a clear change from what has been going on the first four games.

* Tice spent a considerable portion of Tuesday attemtping to dismiss a story in the St. Paul Pioneer Press that cited unnamed players claiming that Tice had considered resigning after Sunday's loss to Atlanta. Tice said no such comments were made and that he has no intention of quitting.
