Vikings-Packers Snapshot

The Packers have the lead in the series and the lead in the recent regular-season meetings against the Vikings, but there isn't anything like having the Packers in the Metrodome to inspire a good fight. Get the series history, rankings and keys to the game.

Green Bay Packers (1-4) at Minnesota Vikings (1-4)

KICKOFF: Sunday, 1:00 ET
GAMEDATE: 10/23/05
SURFACE: FieldTurf
TV: FOX, Sam Rosen, Bill Maas, Jay Glazer

89th meeting. The Packers lead the series 44-43-1 but lost the division rivals' only postseason meeting, 31-17 on Jan. 9 this year in an NFC wild-card playoff at Lambeau Field.

Daunte Culpepper engineered the upset with four touchdown passes, while counterpart Brett Favre endured four interceptions. The Packers swept the regular-season series last year for the first time since 2000.

Not counting the playoffs encounter, Green Bay has won three straight and four of the last five meetings since 2002. All five of those games were decided by five points or less.

Packers: offense 21st (28th rush, 10th pass); defense 10th (10th rush, 11th pass).

Vikings: offense 24th (27th rush, 13th pass); defense 23rd (32nd rush, 8th pass)

When the Packers have been able to give the Vikings trouble at home in recent seasons, it has most often been because of a strong power running game. However, with the offensive line still struggling and RB Ahman Green battling a sore knee, QB Brett Favre will again have to come up big. He could well face a 3-4 front, which the Vikings used with little success in Chicago — but the Bears were able to run more effectively than the Packers have shown this season.

This could also be a good game for struggling Minnesota QB Daunte Culpepper to get healthy — he has 16 touchdown passes and no interceptions in his past five games against Green Bay. But he must get help from his ground game, which hasn't forced opponents to respect the run.

Past five meetings have been decided by five points or less.

Packers: Favre has not thrown an interception in only two of his last 13 games in the Metrodome — both victories. ... Have won their past four games following a bye week.

Vikings: Culpepper's 12 INTs are one more than he threw all of last season. ... S Darren Sharper played previous eight seasons with Green Bay.
