Over the past two weeks, since Daunte Culpepper was lost for the season, several people have speculated as to how long he will be on the shelf. The Vikings have tried to keep a positive spin on the injury, hinting he will be ready for opening day. Others haven't been so optimistic. Unfortunately, many of those dissenters are people who perform such surgeries.
The timetable on a full return to range of motion has been suggested as 18 months -- which would take Culpepper until the minicamps heading into the 2007 season to be 100 percent back from the injury. Others have theorized that he could ready in nine to 12 months -- the short end of that having him ready by the start of training camp and the long end not having him ready to return until midseason.
In a statement released by the team earlier this week and echoed by coach Mike Tice, VU questioned the language which said that the team expects Culpepper to "participate" in training camp last year. Participate and play are two very different things, and the same sentiment was echoed Wednesday by team trainer Chuck Barta.
"Our expectation," Barta said, "is that he'll be ready to participate in training camp. What that participation is going to entail will be known at that point in time."
Translation? We're just going to have to wait and see.
* Darren Sharper was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week with his three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Sharper has two touchdown returns for a TD this year and is currently tied for second in the NFL with five interceptions.
* Moe Williams was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and his spot on the 53-man roster was taken by TE Richard Angulo.
* The Vikings filled the opening on the practice squad by re-signing RB Butchie Wallace.
* After having a couple of days off due to the longer preparation week for Monday's game, the Vikings return to full practice today.
