The Vikings coaching staff rose by one Wednesday with the announcement that the team has signed Virginia Tech assistant Kevin Rogers as its new quarterback coach.
Rogers, who worked with Donovan McNabb while both were at Syracuse University, is a 27-year veteran of the coaching ranks who most recently worked with troubled Marcus Vick at Va Tech.
The QB coach position jumped the gun a little, since it was expected that the team would lock down its offensive coordinator first. But, as of Wednesday night, the team hadn't inked the OC yet. However, VU has been told that a deal in principle has been struck with Packers quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell to become the Vikings new OC.
It is also expected that Wisconsin offensive line coach Jim Hueber and former Lions offensive line coach Pat Morris will be hired as co-offensive line coaches this week, as well as Brian Murphy as special teams coach -- a position he currently holds with Wisconsin.
Coach Brad Childress hopes to have the full staff assembled within a week, while other teams continue to scramble for a head coach for their programs.
