Vikings cornerback Ronyell Whitaker, who is playing for the Rhein Fire, was named the NFL Europe Defensive Player of the Week for his performance this past weekend.
Whitaker intercepted two passes, had four passes defensed and added two tackles in the Fire's 31-21 win over the Hamburg Sea Devils on Saturday. He has started all four games this season for Rhein, which is undefeated with a 4-0 record.
Whitaker signed with the Vikings on Feb. 17. He played in four games for Tampa Bay in 2003 with one start and spent the 2004 season on the Buccaneers' practice squad. Whitaker signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted rookie out of Virginia Tech in '03.
