UDFA Analysis: RB Wendell Mathis

The Vikings appear to have their first three running backs slotted on the depth chart, but there could be an open competition for one more spot. One of the leading candidates could be Fresno's State alum Wendell Mathis, an undrafted rookie. We take a look at Mathis' potential coming out of college.

Full Name: Wendell Mathis School: Fresno State Pos: RB

Ht: 5-11.5 Wt: 210 40: 4.53 Year: 5Sr

Bio: All-Conference selection as a senior, totaling 248/1,313/15 on the ground and 19/156/1 as a pass catcher. Junior totals included 995 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns when he started two of 12 games. Began his college career at UCLA.

Pos: Quick, explosive back with a developing game. Sets up blocks, finds the cutback lanes and quickly gets through the open seams on the field. Displayed improved patience as a senior.

Neg: Does not run with great pad level, balance or strength. Lacks creativity and the ability to gain yardage when nothing's available.

Analysis: Consistently improving, Mathis is a solid late-round choice who could develop into a third back on an NFL roster.
