Corey Chavous was brought to Minnesota to play cornerback. But, after further review, some of the Vikings top brass may have other ideas for him.
VU has been told that defensive coordinator Willie Shaw would like to move Chavous to safety to replace Robert Griffith. With his physical ability, Shaw believes Chavous could be a standout safety, but, with the need at cornerback, he'll stay there...for now.
The plan is to start working Chavous at safety during training camp for some drills to see how he takes to it and, if a young corner develops, the team could make the move during the season.
Scouts who have dealt with Chavous say he has the hitting ability to be a safety but has always been a corner. Will the Vikings make the move? Check back a month from now.
* The Vikings Ride for Life from the Metrodome to Grand Casino Hinckley will be run today and Evel Knievel is part of the action.
