NFL Player Notes

The Chiefs nabbed a Pro Bowl cornerback, the Cowboys extended the contract of an impressive tight end, and the Browns were the second team to sign a first-round pick. Get those league notes and more, including a handful of moves and a potential move by the Vikings.

Cornerback Ty Law agreed to a five-year deal with Kansas City, reuniting with coach Herman Edwards after the two were together with the Jets last season. Law, 32 will start opposite of Patrick Surtain.

"We are getting a true pro," Edwards said. "I think when you watch this guy play the first thing you realize about him is that he is very, very competitive. He has great ball awareness and is savvy as a player. He plays through pain. He is the type of guy that wants to play. He has great pride in what he can do and what type of player he is."

  • Dallas TE Jason Witten, who was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, agreed to a seven-year, $29 million deal. He will receive a $6 million signing bonus and a $6 million option bonus next March.

  • Browns LB Kamerion Wimbley became the second first-round pick to sign when he agreed to a six-year, $23.7 million deal. He will receive a reported $9.3 million in guaranteed money.

  • S Dwight Smith had his contract terminated by New Orleans. He is reportedly in the sites of the Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin coached Smith with they were both part of the Bucs organization.

  • The Vikings released CB R.J. Cobbs, WR Barrick Nealy, WR Kyle Smith and OL Albert Stinson.

  • Eagles WR Jason Avant (knee) was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list.

  • Eagles RB Correll Buckhalter (knee) was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list.

  • OT Winston Justice (2/39) signed with the Eagles. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • TE Leonard Pope (3/72) signed with Arizona. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • DE Christian Mohr (released by Seahawks on Sept. 3; International Development Program) was added to Philadelphia's practice squad.

  • RB Andre Hall was waived by Tennessee.

  • C Chris Chester signed with Baltimore. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • LB Anthony Schlegel (3/76) signed with the Jets. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • WR Jeremy Bloom (hamstring) was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list for the Eagles.
