It was a sight Vikings fans, coaches and players hadn't seen in training camp until Tuesday -- Pat and Kevin Williams lined up next to one another on the practice field. Pat Williams had been sidelined by coach Brad Childress for being too heavy and Kevin Williams had been sidelined with a flare-up of his surgically repaired right knee.
Both were on the field Tuesday, but one has to wonder how long it will be. Pat still seems to be in the coach's dog house -- at least in the way he is being referred to by Childress.
When asked if he had a target weight for Williams, Childress said, "That's between Pat and I. He's working on his girlish figure."
While we're not sure what kind of girls look like Pat Williams, Childress' assessment of Kevin Williams was more to the point. In discussing the knee injury that has sidelined Kevin for part of training camp, Childress used words like "chronic" and "degenerative" to describe his knee condition. It gives the indication that this will be an ongoing problem that could always affect Kevin.
For Vikings fans, it was great to see the Williams duo on the field together. The question that is now posed is how long will it last?
* Former Viking Cory Withrow signed a one-year deal with the Chargers Tuesday.
* The team released its first depth chart Tuesday and things don't look good for former starter Adam Goldberg. He's listed as No. 3 on the depth chart at left tackle -- a slot that typically doesn't make the team. Mike Rosenthal is listed as No. 2 at left tackle and No. 3 at right tackle. For now, Mewelde Moore is listed as the team's top punt returner and Koren Robinson as the No. 1 kickoff return man.
* Tank Williams had successful knee surgery Tuesday and Dr. James Andrews said there were no complications or additional damage to his fractured kneecap.
