Former Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman Shannon Snell signed with Jacksonville. Snell, a 6-2, 310 pounder from Florida, was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie in 2004. He will wear jersey No. 60.
Seattle Seahawks left guard Floyd Womack, expected to take over for departed Steve Hutchinson, continues to struggle with injuries as a strained hamstring suffered in practice Wednesday will sideline him for at least a week. Hutchinson is set to make his first appearance with the Vikings on Monday night.
Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Thursday that former Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper will play Saturday night in the preseason opener against Jacksonville, facing Del Rio and Tice. "He has done everything in practice that he needs to do," Saban said. "And he wants to play."
New England Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi will miss the entire preseason after surgery on a broken wrist. Bruschi suffered the injury July 31and his status for the Sept. 10 season opener is unclear.
Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens tested his injured hamstring further Wednesday, running hard and working on making cuts and quick stops. He has missed 10 practices and is not expected to play Saturday in Seattle.
New York Jets RB Curtis Martin rebuffed reports out of New York that he is considering retiring. He said his focus is on playing this season, although he wouldn't estimate when he'll be able to return from rehabbing his surgically-repaired knee. "I'm working out as hard as I can," he said. "I'm here every single day and probably up here longer than most of the other players because I'm doing extra work."
Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme said his throwing shoulder is tired, not sore, and that's why he is still not 100 percent during practices. He threw in one of two practices Tuesday.
Philadelphia RB Brian Westbrook has swelling in his foot that is keeping him sidelined. "It's going down fast, he's feeling better, but it's probably going to take a little bit of time," coach Andy Reid said. "Exactly how long? I can't tell you that. But, it's getting better."
New York Giants LB LaVar Arrington (knee) will not play in Friday's preseason opener. "Naturally, I'm concerned any time the players aren't out on the field," coach Tom Coughlin said. "But as I said the other day, we're in the process of developing a way in which we can manage this thing with him. As we go forward, we'll be under those guidelines. If we get him back next week, that will be fine. I'll be okay with that."
