Record-Seekers vs. Packers

There weren't a lot of positives to take away from the offense in the Vikings' 9-7 loss in Lambeau Field, but a number of Vikings moved up the franchise charts.

  • The Vikings blocked their first field goal in four years. Ray Edwards becomes only the ninth defensive end in team history to block a field goal. It marked the 67th blocked field goal in team history.

  • Tarvaris Jackson becomes only the fourth Vikings rookie quarterback to start a game his rookie year, and the first in 29 years since Tommy Kramer vs. Oakland on Dec. 11, 1977. The others were Joe Kapp (1967) and Fran Tarkenton (1961).

  • With Fred Smoot's 47-yard interception return for a touchdown, the Vikings defense has now scored an interception return in two consecutive seasons at Lambeau Field for only the second time in team history. Last season, Dovonte Edwards intercepted Brett Farve and returned the ball 51 yards on Nov. 21, 2005. The first time was Paul Krause (1972, 32 yard for the TD) and Bobby Bryant (1973, 46 yards for the TD).

  • Chester Taylor's 49 yards rushing gives him a season total of 1,185, which moves him into fifth place for a Vikings season. Robert Smith (2000) leads the way with 1,521 yards.

  • Taylor's 18 combined scrimmage attempts (rushing and receiving) give him a season total of 321, also good for fifth place in a season. Ted Brown holds the record with 357 in 1981.

  • Chris Kluwe moves into second place for the most punts of 50 yards or more in a season. He has 20 after booting two for 50-plus in Green Bay. Mitch Berger had 22 in 2000.

  • Kluwe's one punt inside the 20 moves him into third place in team history for a season. He now has 26 punts inside the 20, trailing Greg Coleman's 28 (1983) and Mike Saxon's 28 (1994).

  • Brett Farve becomes the first QB in NFL history to reach 5,000 career completions in the fourth quarter.
