Vikings Shore Up Roster's Lower Level

The Vikings signed a number of their practice squad players this week to avoid having them become free agents, and a number of former Vikings joined the signing parade to "reserve/future" lists around the league.

Like many NFL teams, the Vikings have begun the process of re-signing their practice squad players.

On Tuesday, the team re-signed Patrick Body, Alex Guerrero, Norm Katnik, Maurice Mann and Jimmy Martin.

Body is a cornerback from Toledo who spent the last seven weeks of the season on the Vikings' practice squad. He was with the Bengals during the 2005 season, when he played in six games, including the wild card playoffs. Body earned all-MAC honors his senior season at Toledo.

Geurrero is a defensive tackle out of Boise State who spent the last eight weeks on the practice squad. Geurrero spent time with Seattle and Kansas City before joining the Vikings. The native of the Dominican Republic who went to Brea Olinda (Calif.) High School started 24 of 52 games at Boise State.

Katnik and Martin are both guards. Katnik, a former USC Trojan, spent the last eight weeks of the season on the practice squad. Previously, he was with the New York Jets in 2005 and caught on with the San Francisco 49ers in 2004.

Martin, from Virginia Tech, spent six weeks total on the practice squad during three different stints over the last 12 weeks of the season.

The Vikings signed Mann from Seattle's practice squad before the season began, and the wide receiver out of Nevada was inactive for the first two games of the season, played in the third, was inactive for the next two and then released. He was re-signed to the practice squad, where he spent the final 11 weeks of the season. He didn't register an offensive stat during his one active game against Chicago on Sept. 24.

Teams have one week after the conclusion of their season to sign their practice squad players before they would become free agents.
