The Vikings made the 4 p.m. deadline to trim their roster to 65 players (plus their additional NFL Europe players) by cutting three players, placing two on injured reserve and claiming one.
The claiming was done to shore up the depth at offensive tackle. The Vikings signed offensive tackle Adam Haayer, a second-year player from the University of Minnesota.
After an incredible effort to return to action eight months after suffering a series of leg injuries, defensive lineman Willie Howard's comeback attempt was put on hold until next year, as the Vikings placed him on injured reserve. They also put WR Kenny Clark on IR after he was schedule for back surgery tomorrow.
Released were defensive lineman-turned offensive lineman Chad Beasley, linebacker Isaac Keys and tight end O.J. Santiago.
Santiago's release probably clears the way for Matt Cercone to become the Vikings' fourth tight end, while Beasley or Keys could be brought back on Sept. 2, when the Vikings can start forming a five-man practice squad.
The Vikings roster, including their four NFL Europe holdovers, is now at 69 players. They must get to 65 pl.ayers (including wiping out their NFL Europe exemptions) by Sunday.
Three Cut, One Added, Two to IR
