The Vikings cut 15 players today, a couple of mid-year veterans but mostly players in their first three years. While players on the bubble like kicker Doug Brien made the team for now anyway, one player who wasn't expected to get cut did receive the call from "The Turk."
Linebacker Lemanski Hall, who was recently injured and lost the starting job at weakside linebacker to Raonall Smith, was released. The others gone are: RB David Allen, RB Jeremy Allen, G Orlando Bobo, WR Sean Dawkins, LB Lemanski Hall, S Kyries Hebert, DT Cedric Killings, TE Jeff Kostrewa, G Mike Malano, CB Anthony Midget, LB Andre O'Neal, CB Carey Scott, T Bennitte Waddell, T Lorenzo White and LB Max Yates.
The release of David Allen gives rookie Nick Davis the punt — and presumably the kick — return job. No others vying for a starting job were cut, although rookie safety Hebert was given a look as a starter entering training camp before falling once the preseason games started.
