Several former Vikings, including an ex-coordinator, have been making the transaction wire and rumor mills around the league. See who could be landing where and who has already landed.
Scout.com has learned veteran coach Ted Cottrell is under consideration for the vacant defensive coordinator job with the San Diego Chargers
. The job became open after Wade Phillips
became the Dallas Cowboys
head coach this week.
Cottrell has extensive experience coaching the 3-4 defensive scheme, which the Chargers use, and both he and general manager A.J. Smith
know each other from their days with the Buffalo Bills
Interestingly this week, the Chargers signed free agent tight end T.J. Cottrell
, the son of Ted.
Ted was the defensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings
from 2004-2005 before Mike Tice's entire staff was fired following the 2005 season. He also spent the previous six seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets
. Previously, he had been a linebackers coach and defensive line coach with the Kansas City Chiefs
, Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals
in the NFL, as well as the New Jersey Generals in the USFL. Before taking last year away from coaching, he had been in coaching ranks since 1973. He spent 2006 in the league offices in New York.
In his last 10 years as a defensive coach, his teams accumulated a 97-79 record in the regular seasons.
T.J. also spent time on the Vikings' practice squad and injured reserve, but he never made the active roster.

The Atlanta Falcons will send running back Taurean Henderson to NFL Europe. Henderson signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech last year, but he was released before training camp began.
Former Vikings training camp story Kyries Hebert, a safety out of Louisiana-Lafayette, has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Hebert was undrafted, but he became a training camp story when he was built up by the coaching staff, but he never did make the team.
Former Vikings camp quarterback Jason Fife signed a reserve-future contract with the New Orleans Saints. Like the previous two mentioned, Fife never made it past training camp with the Vikings.
Cornerback Dimitri Patterson signed with the Chiefs after spending time on the Vikings' 2006 practice squad. He was released by the Washington Redskins toward the end of the preseason.
Joining former Vikings tight end Richard Angulo, quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan signed with the Chicago Bears. O'Sullivan spent time on the Vikings' 2005 active roster and was with the team through training camp in 2006.
