NFL Draft Buzz: Visits

A number of players are confirming visits with different NFL teams. Nebraska defensive end Adam Carriker is one of those players, but are the Vikings one of those teams? Find out where a number of prospects are visiting in the near future.

During a phone conversation with Nebraska DE Adam Carriker on Friday, he told me that he completed a visit with the Eagles this week and felt that he'd be a good fit for their system. He said that his impression from the visit is that they are primarily looking at him as a defensive end, but possibly even as a defensive tackle.

Although other published reports claimed that he was meeting with the Rams this past week, he said that hasn't happened yet. St. Louis, Washington and Pittsburgh and the New York Jets are on his list of teams to visit, but he didn't know the specific dates yet. He also told me that the Saints have recently been added to that list as well. Check back this week my two-part interview with Carriker, one of the top talents in this year's draft who is rated as the 11th best overall player in this year's draft by NFL Expert Tom Marino.

A source close to Oregon WR Jordan Kent told me this week that he's wrapped up his first visit after meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on April 4th and 5th. He heads to Atlanta this Tuesday and Wednesday (10th-11th) and is then scheduled to visit with the Seahawks on the 17th and 18th.

Kent caught 44 passes this year for 491 yards (11.2 average) and 4 touchdowns. A highly respected athlete, he was a three-sport letterman at Oregon. Kent was an All-American for the school's track team and a member of the basketball team before he signed up to play football in 2005.

NFL teams will likely be drawn to his overall athleticism and the likelihood that they haven't yet seen his full potential as a receiver since he's had limited game time. He's going to be an intriguing pick who will likely land with a team on Day Two of the draft.

Before he started his pre-draft visits, I was able to interview Central Florida wide receiver Mike Walker, who has been steadily on the rise after strong Combine and Pro Day workouts.

After formal interviews with Atlanta, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Houston, Kansas City and San Diego at the Combine, Walker's had a busy private workout and visits schedule.

According to an update from one of my NFL sources, he's worked out for the Chiefs, Texans and Jets and he even had a personal film session with the Director of Pro Personnel of the Jets. His list of visits scheduled so far, with a few already completed, includes the Chargers, Colts, Rams and Titans.

I've also learned from one of my NFL sources that Virginia Tech DE Noland Burchette recently had a workout with the New York Jets. The 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive lineman made 135 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss, 50 quarterback pressures, forced five fumbles and recovered four during his collegiate career.

To learn more about him, check out this NFL Draft Snapshot and this exclusive interview that was published in early March.

UCLA defensive end Justin Hickman told me during an interview that he's had private workouts with the Steelers and the Panthers. At the Combine, three other teams--the Colts, Eagles and Broncos-- had him drop in for a formal interview.

Hickman's 12.5 sacks in 2006 put him in a tie for the lead in the Pac-10 in that category, and he was the sole leader in tackles for a loss in the conference with 19 for the season. You can learn more about him in his two-part interview that will published this week at

Wilson also says that Texas cornerback Aaron Ross has completed visits with the Cowboys and the Falcons. Still to come for the Jim Thorpe Award winner are visits with the Jets, Bengals and Eagles.
