Undrafted Rookies Keep Coming

The Vikings made eight selections in the 2007 draft, but in the short period of time since the draft, have added even more rookie free agents to the roster.

The Vikings were expected to be given plenty of money to sign undrafted free agents, and apparently that has been the case. Since the end of the draft the team has agreed to terms with DT Joe Anoai (Georgia Tech), safety Jeremy Burnett (Florida), OL Brian Daniels (Colorado), OL Josh Day (Colorado State), CB Sergio Gilliam (Clemson), MLB George Hall (Purdue), DB Chad Johnson (Northwestern State), OT Chase Johnson (Wyoming), TE Baden Jones (Southern Illinois), center Dan Mozes (West Virginia), punter Alex Reyes (Texas Tech) and RB Arkee Whitlock (Southern Illinois).

While it is unlikely that many of these guys will make the final roster, it's clear the Vikings meant what they said when they hinted they would be aggressive with the rookie free agents. They said they have agreed to terms with 16 of them, but declined to release the list. They are also hoping to bring 15 to 20 more rookies in for a tryout over the team's three-day rookie camp this weekend. A few of those could be signed after the weekend.

TUESDAY NOTES
* Whether a simple mistake or a portent of things to come at rookie camp this weekend, the Vikings have quarterback Tyler Thigpen listed as a wide receiver on their official website's team roster. Head coach Brad Childress called him "explosive," but was referring to his arm.
* The Cardinals signed undrafted center Lyle Sendlein, who is the son of former Vikings second-round pick Robin Sendlein.
* From the "Watch Your Back, Rookie" Department comes this: free agent signee Chase Johnson said that, as an offensive tackle the Vikings were his best fit, saying "there are only offensive linemen on its roster right now and the Vikings are pretty thin at tackle. They didn't draft any O-linemen and I'm the only one they've signed so far." While his point may be accurate, those competing with him for a roster spot might take some offense to the "thin" comment.
