>Hymes released
The Vikings peared down their group of receivers as they look ahead to training camp by releasing Randy Hymes.  With 37 NFL games under his belt, Hymes was actually one the most experienced receivers on the roster.  But the performance of Troy Williamson, Bobby Wade, Sidney Rice, Aundrae Allison, Cortez Hankton, Martin Nance, Billy McMullen, Jason Carter, Chandler Williams and Todd Lowber in mini camp and OTAs made Hymes expendable.  All offer as much as Hymes, but with much more upside potential in many cases.  Had the Vikings not landed Rice and Allison in the draft, Hymes might have pushed for a roster spot.  They still have 10 receivers to work with as they continue OTAs and head into training camp, plus Justin Surrency finishing up his season in NFL Europa.  The team needed a roster spot for linebacker John Kerr.  (
