>Trade interest in Moore?

Purely speculation at this point, but there are said to be other teams monitoring the status of the Vikings’ Mewelde Moore by teams looking to improve their depth at running back.

The tandem of Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson has the Vikings pretty deep at the position now, with veterans Ciatrick Fason and Artose Pinner also still in the mix, along with practice squadder Wendell Mathis and potential rookie free agent sleeper Arkee Whitlock.

Moore is also a very solid punt returner so he could indeed have value, and, he’s in the final year of his contract with the Vikings so any reasonable offers to move him for the right player or future picks would be heard.  He will be an unrestricted free agent following this season.

The Vikings and more than a dozen other teams still have in excess of $10 million available under the salary cap, giving teams more flexibility than in years past.

>Vikings mail bag
The official team site takes some questions as the team heads into training camp.  Topics addressed include the safety position, contract negotiations with Adrian Peterson, veteran OL help, quarterback development, Chester Taylor, depth on defense and undrafted rookie free agents to keep an eye on.

>Vikings still sitting pretty with salary cap
At $20 million in salary cap space, only the Buffalo Bills ($21 million) and Cleveland Browns ($22 million) have more room than the Vikings.  It’s too bad there isn’t a worthwhile player out there to use it on.

>Peterson one of five who can make a difference
John Clayton of ESPN highlights five players who can turn a good season into a great one for their team.  Checking in at No. 2 on his list is Vikings rookie running back Adrian Peterson.  Clayton also writes, “If the Vikings can come up with a running game that allows [Tarvaris Jackson] to throw fewer than 30 passes a game, Jackson could be the surprise quarterback of the season.”

>Odds for NFL Rookie-of-the-Year?

>Henson gets engaged

>Headrick steps down amid criticism
Remember Roger Headrick?  The former Pillsbury executive who brought Dennis Green to the Vikings when he ran the club and got squeezed out after the sale of the team to Red McCombs.  Roger has resigned as the director of drugstore chain CVS Caremark Corp. amid calls from a shareholder group for his resignation.
