Wade is finally getting big chance at WR

With just 101 career receptions and four seasons of experience, free agent wide receiver Bobby Wade is suddenly the leader among the team’s receiving corps.

“It’s a little different coming in and being a veteran guy and playing in that position, but it's nothing I shy away from,” Wade said in this TSN article.  “I think this group responds well to their peers and how we work as a group on the field is kind of contagious and kind of spreads.”

So far, all signs have been positive that Wade will indeed become a key contributor in the passing game this season

Another possible DT prospect?

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Hollis Thomas could be cut from the team this coming Monday or Tuesday.

Thomas (6-0, 306) spent nine seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (1996-2005), and as you know, Vikings coach Brad Childress was there, making Thomas another potential defensive tackle for the rotation behind Pat Williams and Kevin Williams.  So Childress knows what Thomas has to offer.

Thomas was suspended for four games last season after testing positive for steroids from asthma medication.  Thomas, who had been the Saints’ main run stuffer, was having one of his best seasons ever and was also doing a good job of pushing the pocket in passing situations.

In 12 games with the Saints last year, Thomas recorded 43 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

A look at the Saints depth chart doesn’t suggest that they have the depth at the position to release Thomas, but there could be other issues (i.e. salary, etc.) involved.

For now the Vikings seem committed to giving Fred Evans every chance to win that No. 3 defensive tackle job, as indicated by their decision to pass on veteran Corey Simon for now, as well.

Still, the familiarity with Thomas could get him a look by the Vikings if Shefter’s report is accurate.

Right guard spot still up for grabs

There is still no clear-cut winner in the competition for the starting right guard spot between incumbent Artis Hicks and challenger Anthony Herrera.

The coaches are still getting both players reps with the first unit to evaluate their best option once the season starts.
