With fans still shaking their heads how Fred Taylor won a rushing award over Adrian Peterson and LaDainian Tomlinson, perhaps the reason why A.D. didn't get the FedEx Ground award was because Diet Pepsi was waiting in the wings with his name in an envelope.

Less than 24 hours after being jobbed out of one of the Super Bowl awards – the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Year, losing to Fred TaylorAdrian Peterson gets vindication.

Earlier today at the Super Bowl headquarters in suburban Phoenix, A.D. was selected as the 2007 Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. Nearly 440,000 fan votes were submitted – up a whopping 76,500 from the 2006 rookie balloting at

The vote totals were not announced, but Peterson won over fellow rookie stars RB Marshawn Lynch of the Bills, WR Dwayne Bowe of the Chiefs, OT Joe Thomas of the Browns and LB Patrick Willis of the 49ers.

"I hope people understand how much this award means to me," Peterson said. "I got choked up when I accepted it because it brought back all the memories of all the hard work that went into it. I'm so lucky because I've got such a great group of people around me. My family, teammates, coaches and fans have made this possible. It truly shows that if you set your bar high and are willing to make the sacrifices to make your dreams come true they will."

Throughout the season, fans voted for five nominees for Rookie of the Week, an honor Peterson won in Week 6 vs. Chicago and Week 9 vs. San Diego – both games in which he rushed for more than 200 yards.
