Note: Due to his Muslim faith he will fast and then take IVs on game days to fuel his body. During Ramadan, Muslims eat and drink before the sun rises, then avoid food and liquids until it sets. Abdullah will awake early to eat breakfast. The holy month (which begins in mid-September) is one of the five pillars of the Islamic faith. Besides fasting, Abdullah also spends time in contemplation and prayer.
Pro: Signed by the Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2008 NFL Draft.
Positives: High character, mature young man who is married with a son. Works hard and takes the game seriously. Disciplined and plays within the framework of the defensive scheme. Nice size and ball skills. Plays downhill on run support. Aggressive hitter. Effective special teams player. Has NFL bloodlines.
Negatives: Is not that instinctive and lacks top range and catchup speed. A little stiff on the turn. Better moving forward than in reverse. Misses too many tackles.
Summary: Improving player with nice size and ball skills but limited instincts and playing speed. He will have to really stand out on special teams to enhance his chances.
What they said:
"Has shown improvement every year and is committed to the game but will have to make it on special teams to stick on a roster." - Nolan Nawrocki, Pro Football Weekly
"Bit of a 'tweener in that he isn't a typical centerfielder or in-the-box type. Profiles as a backup in the pros." - Scott Wright, Draft Countdown
