The Vikings have signed two of the five players in their rookie class, sixth-round wide receiver Jaymar Johnson and fifth-round defensive tackle Letroy Guion, according to the team's web site.
Guion was selected by the Vikings after entering the draft as a junior. He started only 14 of 32 games played during his time at Florida State, registering 68 tackles in three seasons.
He played in eight games on defense and two more on special teams as a freshman and started the final five games of his sophomore season, garnering 25 tackles, including four for losses, a sack and a forced fumble. He started eight games as a junior, finishing ninth on the team with 31 tackles, including 6.5 for losses, a sack and two forced fumbles.
At Bradford (Fla.) High School, Guion lettered four times in football while helping his team to the state semifinals in each of his last three seasons. As a senior, he was named the Gainesville Sun Player of the Year and all-state first-team, and was named all-area after his junior and senior campaigns. He was the Class 2A Mr. Football runner-up as a senior after registering 131 tackles, 21 for losses, 12 sacks and forcing 11 fumbles.
Johnson had 66 receptions for 1,140 yards (17.3-yard average) and nine touchdowns in two seasons at Jackson State. He averaged 10.9 yards on 43 punt returns, including two touchdowns.
In high school, Johnson was named all-state, all-area and all-conference as a senior at Gary, Ind. He caught 50 passes for 896 yards and 20 touchdowns in eight games as a senior.
The Vikings have three picks left to sign – second-round safety Tyrell Johnson, fifth-round quarterback John David Booty and sixth-round center John Sullivan. The team's first training camp practice is Friday.
