Senior Bowl Team Reports

Jerry Jones, Dave Wannstedt and Jim Fassell were just a few of the big names from the NFL who showed up Tuesday at both practices in Mobile during the second day of Senior Bowl week. Along with them were an array of underclassmen acquainting themselves with scouts.

Jerry Jones was here bright and early for Tuesday morning's North practice and closely inspected both offensive and defensive linemen with a few cronies. Bill Parcells was not here. For all the bad press he receives Jones gets an "A for effort" in our book as he's always at the Senior Bowl or Combine working hard. The Cowboy scouts were raving about Marcus Trufant, though they kept referring to him as "that cornerback from Washington" and also had good words to say about Eugene Wilson. They then interviewed the injured Antonio Garray on the sidelines.

The Eagles may be looking at a defensive theme to their draft as they were enamored with Victor Hobson and also mentioned they like Angelo Crowell and feel they could work with defensive end Terrance Martin.

Tuesday the Ravens scouted defensive backs and wide receivers heavily. They had a long discussion with Arnaz Battle and Tyrone Calico after practice and later met with Rashean Mathis in the afternoon. At night they had a sit down with Jon Stinchcomb.

The Niners centered on a few skill players talking with Cecil Sapp and Tyrone Calico. The Panthers are another looking at skill positions as again today up in the stands we heard John Fox raving about a player though this time it was Justin Fargas that caught his eye.

Calico was actually a busy man as later on the Chiefs and Falcons grabbed him before he jumped on the bus back to the Adams Mark Hotel. The Chiefs were also hot for Marcus Trufant who, by large consensus, is the best cornerback in attendance.

The Seattle Seahawks said they will look for a pure edge rusher, then in the same breath said they were very impressed with Kevin Williams.

Several underclassmen as well as seniors not playing in the game were in attendance. Antonio Garray was omnipresent and met with a lot of scouts. UL-Lafayette corner Ivan Taylor was around during the afternoon as were a few underclassmen. I stood by Kelly Washington watching the quarterbacks workout; Washington was intently eyeing the passers. He has no visible scars from the surgery based on what we saw and he was wearing a low cut t-shirt. LaBrandon Toefield was also present and looked fit. Toefield stated to us that while he will go to the combine and lift he will not run in the RCA Dome, rather wait for the Pro Day in Baton Rouge.
