One of the Vikings' oldest and most successful charitable efforts is getting ready to take off on Saturday.
With the fall-like weather that Minnesota has been enjoying this weekend, it is hoped that the same type of sunny conditions, mild temperatures and low dewpoints will accompany next Saturday, as many current and former Vikings take part in the 15th Annual Ride For Life Motorcycle Rally to benefit the Vikings Children's Fund.
The 75-mile rally starts at 12:15 p.m. at the Blue Heron Grill in Hugo and works its way up I-35 to Hinckley, where a welcome party will greet the riders starting at about 1:30 p.m. when the first riders arrive. The party will include $20,000 in cash prizes plus approximately $10,000 in Vikings tickets, a trip to Cancun, a 2009 Yamaha Star motorcycle, autographed items, jerseys, footballs and more. The will be food and beverages available and live music from the band Zed Leppelin.
While the primary group of riders will leave from Hugo, this year's rally will have other starting points as well, including Boderline Bar and Grill in Lakeland Shores, Babe's Bar and Grill in Lakeville, The Junction Bar and Grill in Minneapolis and Fat Boy's Bar and Grill in East Bethel.
Registration is $15 per rider, which includes a prize ticket, parking voucher in a secured lot, event admission and autographs.

In an interview in the Palm Beach Post, the paper discusses the future of defensive end Cameron Wake, a CFL star who signed with the Dolphins last month. Wake had 23 sacks last year and was named the CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player. In the story, it claims Wake was on the radar of a handful of teams looking to sign him, including the Vikings, Rams, Saints and Bills.
Pro Football Weekly has released its first fantasy rankings and it has Adrian Peterson as the No. 1 overall selection. Other Vikings on the list include quarterback Sage Rosenfels (23rd among QBs), RB Chester Taylor (45th), WRs Bernard Berrian (No. 26), Percy Harvin (No. 48), Sidney Rice (No. 54) and Bobby Wade (No. 92), tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (No. 13) and kicker Ryan Longwell (No. 6). The Vikings defense ranked No. 6 on the list behind only the Steelers, Giants, Ravens, Titans and Eagles.
Some of the early sports books have the Vikings 19 to 1 to win the Super Bowl. Only eight teams have lower betting odds – the Patriots (4:1), Steelers (6:1), Chargers (8:1), Eagles (8½:1), Giants (9:1), Colts (11½:1), Cowboys (12:1) and Saints (18½:1). The Vikings, Dolphins and Falcons are all at 19 to 1 odds.
