Senior Bowl Vikings?

Speculation between now and the draft will be prevalent, but TFY Draft Preview's Tony Pauline spent the week observing players and scouts during practices at the Senior Bowl. Here is his take on six players who might make sense for the Vikings in the early rounds of April's draft.

With the Senior Bowl at 1 p.m. Central today on ESPN, here are some players to watch who could end up in Vikings purple after the first day of April's draft.

Name: Colin Cole/DT

Tuesday: Quick and explosive but must beat the opponent with the first move or is not beating him at all. As one scout wrote in his notebook, no leg drive whatsoever.

Wednesday: Worked hard and played with leverage but his lack of size is a major hindrance as he was easily moved off the ball by blockers.

Thursday: Nothing to report

Team Interest: Vikings

Name: Marcus Trufant/CB

Weigh In Comments: Thin

Tuesday: Technically the best corner of the day; great backpedal and feel for the position. Never lost his man (though Bryant Johnson made a great catch over him, more so based on a terrific play Johnson made) and even showed a good burst of closing and recovery speed. One Eagle scout had him tabbed late first round.

Wednesday: Outstanding and nothing less. Looks like a shut down corner and broke up several passes from the get go. Disciplined, smart and very aware. Stays in his backpedal, reads the receivers eyes then shows an explosive burst on the pass. Heading to the top 20 of round one. Many have positive comments on his play here this week.

Thursday: Again, very solid.

Team Interest: Falcons, Vikings, Browns

Name: Bryant Johnson/WR
College: Penn St
Jersey # 24

Wt: 208
Hand: 8
Arm: 32.5

Tuesday: Big and practiced that way. Made several nice grabs. Adequate route running skills. Solid morning but did not stand out.

Wednesday: Caught the ball well and made several nice grabs. Not a great route runner but does enough to get separation. Extends nicely and caught the ball well all day.

Thursday: Nothing to report

Team Interest: Vikings, Texans, Cardinals

Name: Chris Kelsay/DE
College: Nebraska

Weigh In Comments: Built but room for growth

Tuesday: Athletic, quick and explosive. Rushed the edge with speed but also displayed the ability to quickly change his angle of attack or redirect to the action. Fast and smart. Did a terrific job reading the action, playing disciplined ball and not biting on play action passes. Had difficulty with bigger lineman; controlled (or should we say dominated) by Tony Pashos then got frustrated and started throwing punches.

Wednesday: Used at linebacker during some of the drills and did an admirable job. Same as Tuesday; goes hard, makes plays in all directions of the field but its' over once he's locked up in a block.

Thursday: Stood up over tackle as the Texans staff implemented more of a three-four defense and did a solid job. His ability to run with speed laterally is impressive.

Team Interest: Nothing to report

Name: Jerome McDougle/DE
College: Miami-Fl

Weigh In Comments: Pretty cut and not a lot for growth

Monday: Explosive and athletic off the snap. Good inside move and shows a lot of speed off the edge. Had difficulty getting off blocks and was moved out of his rush angles.

Tuesday: Looked really good and I'd go so far as to say he was the best defensive lineman for the South today. Besides all his physical skills he displayed great hand technique and got penetration all day.

Wednesday: Fast, fast, fast but can't get off blocks. Too bad he doesn't have his brother Stockar's size.

Thursday: Nothing to report

Team Interest: Atlanta

Name: Ty Warren/DT
College: Texas A&M
Jersey # 94
Ht: 6040
Wt: 298
Hand: 10
Arm: 33.5

Weigh In Comments: Good size with growth potential

Monday: Best defensive lineman on the south this afternoon. Quick, explosive and strong. Beat double teams all day. Also an imposing figure. Talked to him for a while and though I am 6-foot 2-inches, I was looking up at him. Good day of practice.

Tuesday: Did not look as good as yesterday and was controlled several times by blockers. Has the quickness off the snap and the size to be a factor but got minimal penetration this afternoon.

Wednesday: Got it back on track somewhat. Came to practice with a lot of explosion and intensity, which resulted in Warren beating blocks up the field. Still held at the point when he should not be.

Thursday: Nothing to report

Team Interest: Nothing to report

Name: Andre Woolfolk/CB
College: Oklahoma
Jersey # 17
Ht: 6010
Wt: 193
Hand: 9.5
Arm: 34

Weigh In Comments: Nothing to report

Monday: Seemed a little hesitant to us, especially off the line. Not a great afternoon.

Tuesday: Played safety during the scrimmage. Better than yesterday; looked very smooth. Has not made many plays against the ball the past two days.

Wednesday: Played safety and made a few good plays but again; non-descript and not spectacular.

Thursday: Nothing to report

Team Interest: Niners
