Record-seekers vs. Texans

It's only preseason. You've heard that phrase hundreds of times, but the Vikings did some nice things in their third preseason game, including a couple of top-five entries for Adrian Peterson.

  • The last time the Vikings started the preseason 3-0 was in 2001. On week three, the Vikings over the past 49 seasons are 33-16 overall, which is their best week.

  • Adrian Peterson's 117 yards rushing against the Texans is the third highest total in team preseason history. He becomes only the sixth player to reach 100 yards in a preseason game, and the first since 1991. Tommy Mason (9/2/62) and Tom Wilson (8/17/63) are the only Vikings with more rushing yards in a Vikings preseason game.

  • Peterson's 10.6-yard rushing average ranks second best in preseason with a minimum of 10 attempts. Tommy Mason averaged 11.2 yards per carry in the 1962 preseason. No other Viking is higher than 10 yards per carry.

  • Peterson's 75-yard touchdown run was the longest in team history in a preseason game. Peterson is the only player to have two runs in the top-10 longest in the franchise's preseason history. His 43-yarder against the Jets on Aug. 17, 2007, is ninth on the list.

  • The Vikings' first three preseason games have produced no turnovers. That is a team record for most games in a preseason, breaking the record of two set in 2006, 1992 and 1969.
