Record-seekers vs. Cowboys
GAME NOTES vs. COWBOYS
Tarvaris Jackson tied a team record for most preseasons with a quarterback rating of 100-plus. Jackson has done that in 2006, 2008 and 2009, tying Daunte Culpepper's three years from 2002-04. Randall Cunningham (1998-99) is the only other Vikings QB to accomplish that multiple times.
Jackson's 36 pass attempts in a preseason without an interception ranks fifth. Fran Tarkenton leads that category, going 51 passes without an interception in 1961, followed by Rich Gannon (1987) and Bob Lee (1977) with 47 attempts and Norm Snead (1971) with 45.
Jackson's completion percentage of 63.9 ranks 10th in preseason history. He joins Fran Tarkenton as the only quarterbacks to have two preseason completion percentages in the team's top 10.
Adrian Peterson set a team record for highest rushing average in a preseason. He averaged 7.2 yards per carry, besting Bill Brown's old record of 6.6 from 1968.
Darius Reynaud's 81-yard punt return for a touchdown was the longest in Vikings preseason history, and the second longest (79 yard by Sam McCullum) was way back in 1975.
Reynaud's 81 yards in punt returns ranks fifth in team history for a preseason game. Three Vikings have had more than 100 punt-return yards in a preseason game – David Palmer's 201 vs. Kansas City in 1995, Rufus Bess' 113 vs. St. Louis is 1983, and Eric Robison's 113 vs. Pittsburgh in 1985.
Ian Johnson's two rushing touchdowns in a single preseason game ties a team record. It's been accomplished 13 times in Vikings preseason history, the last time coming in 2001 when Michael Bennett scored twice against New Orleans. Others to do it include Robert Smith (2000), Ronnie West (1992), Oscar Reed (1974), Chuck Foreman (1973), Clinton Jones (1971), Dave Osborn (1970), Bill Brown (1968 and 1963) and Tommy Mason (twice in 1965).
Albert Young's 19 rushing attempts ties for second most in team history in a single preseason game. The record is 24 by Tom Wilson vs. Los Angeles in 1963. Clinton Jones (1968) also had 19.
