Booty among cuts as team trims to 53

The Vikings officially announced their cutdown to the 53-man roster, including QB John David Booty and CB Marcus McCauley.

The Vikings haven't officially announced who they have waived yet, but NFL Network is reporting that among their cuts will quarterback John David Booty.

Among the other names listed are tight end Garrett Mills, claimed on waivers two years ago from the Patriots, but played in only nine games for the Vikings.

The other cuts named are fullback Nehemiah Broughton, DE Martail Burnett, safety De'von Hall, LB David Herron, RB Ian Johnson and TE Jake Nordin.

The Vikings have about an hour to get their final list of cuts submitted to the league office.

UPDATE - WR Nick Moore has been added to the list of cuts.

WR Vinny Perretta has been added to the cut list.

With 12 more cuts to go, some things have already become clear. It would seem all trade talks for Tarvaris Jackson are dead and he will remain with the team. With the release of Johnson and Broughton, it would seem safe to assume that Albert Young and Naufahu Tahi have made the team. It also looks as though the Vikings will go with the same three tight ends fans have been used to - Visanthe Shiancoe, Jim Kleinsasser and Jeff Dugan.

As of this update, the Vikings still have seven wide receivers on the roster. Expect that number to drop to six, most likely with Bobby Williams being released.

DT Tremaine Johnson and OT Drew Radovich have been added to the cut list. 12 down. Ten to go.

Eight of the 12 cuts to date have been on the offensive side of the ball.

In perhaps a small surprise, the Vikings have cut cornerback Marcus McCauley. A third-round pick in the 2007 draft that yielded Adrian Peterson and Sidney Rice, McCauley started nine games as a rookie, but just one last year. He was inactive for six games, but was on the active roster for the final seven games last year, including the playoff loss to the Eagles.

Defensive end Otis Grigsby, who was claimed off the Panthers practice squad in 2007 and played in eight games both in 2007 and 2008 for the Vikings, was added to the cut list.

The final eight names were announced. They are: G Chris Clark, WR Bobby Williams, G Andy Kemp, G Juan Garcia, G Chris Clark, DT Antoine Holmes, CB Marcus Walker and safety Colt Anderson.
