The Vikings are continuing to dominate the fan-voting portion of the Pro Bowl selection process, according to the numbers released Tuesday by the NFL.
Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is second overall in fan voting, trailing Saints QB Drew Brees, who has 1,120,535 votes, by less than 400 votes. Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning is third overall, about 7,000 votes out of the lead, followed by Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who has 1,079,993 votes.
The dropoff in vote-getters is dramatic after that, with Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald rounding out the top five overall with 684,698 votes.
Even without Favre overtaking Drew Brees for the leading NFC quarterback, the Vikings still have 11 players leading the conference voting at their respective positions.
In addition to Peterson, offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie leads his position with 301,445 votes, guard Steve Hutchinson has 308,887 votes, center John Sullivan has 290,702 votes and fullback Naufahu Tahi has 147,168.
On defense, the Vikings have two players leading their respective positions in the NFC. Jared Allen leads defensive ends with 446,824 votes and Pat Williams leads defensive tackles with 285,254.
The Vikings are dominating the NFC's special teams categories. Chris Kluwe leads NFC punters with 108,556 votes, Ryan Longwell leads the kickers with 159,863, Heath Farwell leads specialists with 138,188 and Percy Harvin leads kick returners with 298,208 votes.
Other NFC leaders at their respective positions are Cowboys OLB DeMarcus Ware (340,915), 49ers ILB Patrick Willis (236,923), Eagles CB Asante Samuel (258,751), Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson (237,469), Saints FS Darren Sharper (377,297) and Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (351,966).
Other Vikings in the top five in NFC voting at their respective positions are WR Sidney Rice (fourth), TE Visanthe Shiancoe (fifth), T Phil Loadholt (second), G Anthony Herrera (second), strong safety Tyrell Johnson (third), CBs Antoine Winfield (third) and Cedric Griffin (fifth), DT Kevin Williams (second), FS Madieu Williams (second) and OLB Chad Greenway (second).
Fan voting takes place through Dec. 21 at NFL.com/probowl and counts for one-third of the selection process. Coaches' and players' votes count for one-third each as well.
