Vikings start looking at rookies

The Vikings have their scouting staff in Mobile, Ala., to analyze next year's prospects and interview nearly all of them. Get to know one offensive tackle they talked with at the Senior Bowl and see what he's working on.

Q: How are things going this week?

I'm just enjoying it. It's such an honor to be here. There are so many great players here. You've got to take it for what it's worth and I'm just going out there and competing.

Q: What are you hearing from the coaches and scouts you've met with?

Just talking to a bunch of different coaches and scouts, the word is good, but I need to focus and be nasty and get my hand placement right. But it's going good right now. I'm talking to all the teams and just telling them what kind of person I am and what kind of guy I am. They get to see the film but they don't always get to talk to you, so just letting them know what kind of person I am.

Q: And what kind of person are you?

Just a good Christian person. Faith is always No. 1. Family-oriented person. Me and my family are really close. That's the kind of guy I am – keep principled. Always keep principles in mind and the things I was taught by my family so you don't embarrass your family.

Q: Was family a big influence on you getting to this point?

Of course, parents and my brother. I'm the youngest of four, so I was always looking to somebody and trying to figure out what they're doing and falling in line. My parents, they keep me grounded. I talk to them every single night. They're doing well. My dad recently was sick and he's getting a lot better. My family is really good. I love them to death and don't take them for granted.

Q: Is left tackle going to be your spot in the NFL?

Honestly, I don't know. I'm sure it will be tackle, right or left. I want to be prepared for both, and that's what we're doing right now, working at left and right. Wherever I can fit in, that's really what I'm thinking.

Q: Who have you talked to?

Several teams – I've talked to the Packers, Carolina, the Saints, the Vikings. Just different teams have come up and say hi. They like to know your character.

Q: What sort of stuff do they ask you about? Mostly personal?

They all kind of ask the same questions. 'What type of person are you?' They want to know, of course, if you've gotten into trouble, because that's huge. I'm sure they wouldn't want a person who's gotten into trouble. Always tell them about that, your background, your family, where you've come from and stuff like that. Just generally tell them about yourself, things that you're proud of, things you do well and some things you don't do well.
