Favre throwing at Oak Grove again

Stop us if you've heard this one before: Brett Favre is throwing to Oak Grove High School players while mulling a potential comeback.

It doesn't look like Favre is trying to remember his own high school glory days, when he earned five letters in baseball and three in football at Hancock North Central High in Kiln, Miss. Favre's presence with this high school team is welcome, according to what Nevil Barr, the coach at Oak Grove, told the Star Tribune today. He has been throwing there since shortly after his ankle surgery in late May.

"His arm is great like always," Barr told the Star Tribune. "As far as how his ankle is, I haven't heard him say anything about it. We don't ask him a whole lot on that."

So in case the first dozen signs of Favre's return to the Vikings in 2010 weren't enough, Thursday's report is one more piece of evidence to convince you.

Grant among CFL legends honored in Winnipeg

Hall-of-Fame Vikings coach Bud Grant will be among 11 Canadian Football League legends being honored before Friday's season kickoff of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Here's a picture of those being honored from the Winnipeg Sun, taken this past Wednesday at a banquet celebration.

Grant, who guided the Bombers to four Grey Cups in the 1950s and '60s, was impressed with the group photo taken on Wednesday.

"If you went through the resume of all these great players and coaches here, you've got the best in Canada, certainly in Winnipeg," Grant said. "It's interesting to talk to them and share our experiences in Winnipeg. I assure you they're all good."

Peterson a positive influence with camping kids

Adrian Peterson caused a stir in Minnesota when he skipped the mandatory minicamp for the Vikings to attend Adrian Peterson Day back in his hometown of Palestine, Texas, but his time was also productive for kids in Oklahoma.

Peterson's camp in Norman, Okla. attracts hundreds of kids, and a small portion of the interaction can be seen in this video from The Oklahoman.

"I didn't really have the opportunity to be able to be around my favorite player growing up, but I can just imagine what the feeling is like," Peterson said of his reasons for putting on the camp, which is in its third year. "I can see it in these kids' eyes. It could be the smallest things that you say to them that catches them and really can turn their lives around and be able to start thinking differently."

Carter on Favre's return: ‘Everyone knows that'

The list of people convinced that Brett Favre is returning to the Vikings in 2010 continues to grow. Former Vikings receiver Cris Carter, who played against Favre from 1992-2001, is among them.

Carter spoke to the rookies this week at the NFL Rookie Symposium in Carlsbad, Calif. to talk to them about giving back to the league, but he also informed them of his opinion on Favre.

"Brett Favre, coming back for year No. 20," Carter said. "Yeah, he's coming back. Like, don't trip. Everyone knows that. Anyone alive around the NFL knows Brett Favre is coming back. You all can release that today: Brett Favre is coming back."

Kluwe benefit tomorrow

We blogged this last week, but because of the cause it's worth a reminder that Chris Kluwe's band, Tripping Icarus, will be on stage Friday night to support someone in need.

The band is coming to the aid of its former sound board operator/mixer, the late Andy Lindberg.

Lindberg was killed in a car crash last month when he fell asleep at the wheel during a long drive back from Wisconsin at 4:30 a.m. His wife Kimi Chaia-Lindberg was also in the car and had to have some reconstruction done around one of her eyes as the result of the accident.

In order to help her with medical costs and other expenses, Tripping Icarus will be part of a benefit July 2 at the main room of First Avenue with eight other bands. Tripping Icarus will play for about 30 minutes, like the other bands, and Kluwe is expecting to be on stage around 11 p.m. Doors will open around 7 p.m. with a $10 charge. Kimi has no health insurance, as she was just getting out of school and looking for a job.

If you are in the Minneapolis area and enjoy listening to local bands, or just want to help out someone in need, it's a good time to give Kluwe's hard-rock band a listen.
