NFC North offseason analysis: Green Bay

A look at the player that stood out in the offseason, rookie impressions, lineup concerns, injury issues and contracts watches in Green Bay.

OFFSEASON STANDOUT: Wide receiver Jordy Nelson had only 33 and 22 catches his first two pro seasons, but the third year might be the charm for the team's top draft pick in 2008 (second round). Nelson took on starter's reps in the spring practices with Donald Driver sidelined to recover from minor surgery on his knees and flourished with several big plays on the receiving end of throws from Aaron Rodgers, who isn't bashful about getting his receivers involved when they get open.

LINEUP WATCH: Rookie Morgan Burnett is on the fast track to taking over as the starter at strong safety. With incumbent Atari Bigby a no-show all offseason, Burnett, a third-round pick whom general manager Ted Thompson traded up to get jumped right in with the No. 1 unit and frequently flashed the playmaking skills he had at Georgia Tech.

ROOKIE IMPRESSIONS: Besides Burnett, running back James Starks has a shot to make an impact from the get-go. The sixth-round choice hasn't played competitively in a year and a half after missing the 2009 season at Buffalo because of a shoulder injury. The Packers like his explosiveness and will give him ample opportunity to win the No. 3 job behind Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson.

INJURY WATCH: The team isn't counting on cornerback Al Harris to pass his pre-camp physical eight months after the 13th-year veteran underwent reconstructive surgery for torn ligaments in his left knee. Harris is optimistic he will be ready for the start of the season, but Tramon Williams is prepared to handle the starting duties in the interim.

CONTRACT TO WATCH: Bigby is one of 10 players in the league who haven't signed their tenders as restricted free agents. He hasn't helped his cause for retaining the starting job by not being with the club the last three months, so getting signed and reporting to camp on time is critical for Bigby to have any shot of fending off Burnett.
