The first practice of 2010 is underway and it includes all eight Vikings rookie draft picks. The final piece of the puzzle was completed this afternoon with the signing of second-round running back Toby Gerhart to a four-year, $3.77 million contract with $1.94 million in signing bonuses and guarantees.
The Gerhart signing completes a busy week for the Vikings, who locked down their other seven draft picks earlier – CB Chris Cook (2nd round, four years, $5.37 million, $2.3 million guaranteed), DE Everson Griffen (4th round, four years, $2.33 million, $540,000 signing bonus), OL Chris DeGeare (5th round, four years, $1.95 million, $164,800 signing bonus), LB Nathan Triplett (5th round, four years, $1.94 million, $152,200 signing bonus), QB Joe Webb (6th round, four years, $1.88 million, $92,500 signing bonus), TE Mickey Shuler (7th round, four years, $1.85 million, $62,400 signing bonus), FB Ryan D'Imperio (7th round, four years, $1.84 million, $47,200 signing bonus).
While all eight of the rookie picks were signed and on the field, the Vikings were without CB Cedric Griffin and WR Sidney Rice – both of whom start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. The two can remain on the PUP list indefinitely and be called up to the active roster at any time during training camp, but once called up to the active roster, they can't be placed back on the PUP list.
Viking Update is on the sidelines at Mankato for today's first practice and will be reporting on the happenings of the day.
