Little afternoon action at Vikings camp

The Vikings' second practice Thursday was closer to a walk-through than a fully padded affair. The first- and second-team offense took 10-play sessions at three-quarters speed against the defensive starters and backups.

In general, there was little resistance, and little intended. Sage Rosenfels threw the only interception of the session when he tried to fit a pass to Taye Biddle into double coverage. Antoine Winfield ended up with the interception.

Other than that, it was a tame session that had some special teams mixed in.

Not practicing Thursday afternoon: QB Brett Favre (did not report), WR Percy Harvin (death in the family), WR Sidney Rice (hip, PUP), CB Benny Sapp (heat-related), CB Cedric Griffin (knee, PUP), WR Darius Reynaud (leg), RB Adrian Peterson (leg) and LB J Leman (leg). LB E.J. Henderson practiced in the morning session but sat out the afternoon practice as he works his way back from the fractured femur he suffered in December.

Secondary receivers stepping up

With Sidney Rice (hip) and Percy Harvin (death in the family) not practicing much this training camp – and Rice not at all – the receiver corps has been stretched thin, so much so that Bernard Berrian is taking additional reps with the second-team offense.

But a couple of other receivers had nice days for themselves. Greg Lewis has been working with the first-team offense and caught a touchdown pass from Tarvaris Jackson during one segment of practice. Logan Payne made several strong catches during the Thursday morning practice as well.

The Vikings worked on their two-minute offense and defense and Jackson looked especially sharp, even with a limited group to work with offensively.

RB Adrian Peterson continued to be held out of practice with "tightness" in his leg. WR Sidney Rice and CB Cedric Griffin remain the PUP list, WR Darius Reynaud didn't practice because of a leg injury suffered Wednesday, and CB Benny Sapp (heat-related) and LB J Leman (leg) were all held out. WR Percy Harvin remains away from camp after a death in his family and Childress said there was no update on his arrival.

We will have much more on the morning practice on the front page of early this afternoon.
