Report: Harvin is back

Percy Harvin is back with the team, according to Pro Football Talk.

The wide receiver has been absent since Aug. 31 dealing with the death of his grandmother and migraine headaches. He could practice today, and that practice is scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m.

Players and Vikings coach Brad Childress are scheduled to be available to the media following practice, so we hope to hear from Harvin and the coach at that point.

Report: Vikings had interest in Garcia

If the 40-year-old Vikings quarterback that is under contract had decided not to play in 2010, the team was interested in another 40-year-old signal-caller – Jeff Garcia.

That information comes from Garcia's father, Bobby Garcia, in the Gilroy Dispatch and matches a rumor we heard right after the initial Favre flap started on Aug. 3 regarding him text-messaging teammates indicating he was going to retire.

"Minnesota had called (Jeff) and said, ‘If (Brett) Favre doesn't play are you ready to go?'" Bobby Garcia the newspaper. "But, you know what? Favre is going to play.

"I said, ‘(the Nighthawks) really want you and are willing to make you one of the marquee players in the league.'"

Bobby Garcia's belief that Favre is going to play also matches ours. The guess here for his return is Aug. 20, since that would give Favre time to get to Minnesota and do a couple of national television interviews before a nationally televised game. But we have also heard that Vikings management believes his return is coming shortly after Sunday night's game.

As for Jeff Garcia, for now he is committed to the UFL.

"For a while there it wasn't really an option. I was thinking that an NFL opportunity was going to happen." Garcia told the Gilroy Dispatch. "It was either sit around and twiddle my thumbs and wait for a call like I did last year, which was not a very successful thing. Or, go play some football and hopefully have a great experience and prove to myself and anybody else that wants to pay attention that I can still play the game at a high level."

Since Favre's retirement scare on Aug. 3 came and went for Vikings management in less than 24 hours, Garcia's "NFL opportunity" didn't last long. Now, if Favre really surprises people and truly does commit to retirement, then we'd have to see how committed to the UFL Garcia really is.
