VU Daily Blog: 8/17/10

Tuesday started with us sarcastically questioning why Brett Favre wasn't at Winter Park yet and ended with us watching his arrival. See all the Vikings news and speculation as it progressed through the VU Daily Blog.

Nothing to see here … anymore

It sounds like there might not be a press conference tonight for Brett Favre's arrival at Winter Park, or even any official confirmation from the Vikings tonight.

The Vikings practice again on Wednesday, so hopefully he will address the media at that point. We still haven't heard from Percy Harvin, although he was at practice again on Tuesday.

At least it was fun seeing fans drive Winter Park shortly after Favre's arrival and video-taping while they drive … in front of cops who were working security detail.

Favre arrives at Winter Park

Brett Favre pulled into Winter Park just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, passing a crowd of fans and media. Favre was wooed by three of his closest teammates – Ryan Longwell, Jared Allen and Steve Hutchinson – who flew to Hattiesburg, Miss., to convince him to come back for another year.

It looks like it is mission accomplished, but so far no news conference has been announced. We'll pass along any word of a press conference when that comes down.

What? No Favre yet?

So far, no news helicopters swirling. No news vans lining the street and no ride in a black SUV for Brett Favre.

Last year, this is the day that Favre arrived at Winter Park to all the fanfare imaginable. Fans gathered for a look at their one-time villain now turned purple rock star. But the enduring image from this seat will be something that had little to do with football or Favre and more to do with the pop-culture "event" his two-year, $25 million signing became. It was a parrot. Seriously, a person came dressed in a parrot costume to draw attention to some sign he/she was holding. I don't know what the sign said, but it was likely and advertisement trying to get in on the media circus.

This year, this date? So far nothing.

On Monday Vikings coach Brad Childress said he has had no "recent" contact with Favre, and simply repeated a three-word answer when asked if he knew if Favre was coming back: "Not recent contact."

We'll let you know if the fanfare kicks up again today – we expect something to happen on the Favre front in the next week – but so far it's calm at Winter Park.
